Old campus bar photos

topic posted Tue, December 11, 2007 - 3:21 PM by  laura
I have been reflecting on my twenties and the last time I was in ohio I went back to campus and cried my eyes out over the loss of all the places I had spent so many nights having the best time. i live in seattle now moved in 94 so I'm looking for photos between 89 and 94. If digital cameras had been around back then I'm sure I would have pleanty of photos from then but alas. Nobody in seattle believes any of the stories I tell them from those times. Only my friend that moved here with me can backme up and still people don't believe. Any help out there. thanks laura

please please let me know if you get any pics. i tried to no avail years ago. the columbus dispatch ran an article about the south heidelberg back in like 99(???) and i tried to get prints of the photos , i even talked to the photg who shot the pics. him and the writer sole the bartaps off the bar and they ended up demolishing it with all kinds of cool stuff still inside that stinky awesome basement. ah well, was it all just a dream?

Hi, I just posted up a YouTube video from footage shot in December 1988 of the bars from Lane to 10th. Looking to fill in the blanks on some of the names of places I can't remember.

Oops, I guess a URL would help:

I was there in 1985 and the ones I remember include Larry's (the poetry bar) - Green Door more on mid campus, Mean Mr. Mustards (I got thrown out on my birthday for spitting the lemon from my long island iced tea on the bouncer at closing - I was not ready to leave and he was not happy!), The Mine Shaft next door to Mean Mr. Mustards(changed names many times - Thriller was big), Papa Joes (West Side of High & buckets of beer-just dirp your glass in), Spring Break (the theme from Hawaii Five O - on your knees rowing around on the floor) and Crazy Mammas (upstairs close to the Big Bear bakery.)

One on 11th (maybe) where on Wed you could take a cottage chees container and fill it for $1 and another on 18th-19th- mostly for pool and great out door patio in the back. I just can not recall the names.

Out - R - In is the ones on Frambes just south of Lane Aveue. Its still there and patroned by people 21 to 40- something. That is what surprises me about campus now. Things have changed so much that when you go there or to the Arena district you will see an older crowd mixed in that are invited by their kids to let them know there safe with the increase of crime, go down to check out the changes, or realize there looks are the only things that have changed, not their party animal attitude.
